Tensions remained high after clashes erupted in Dutkaiya village in Gariaband district resulting in many injuries including injuries to police personnel and vandalisation of many homes of Muslims.
According to the police reports, the unrest began after three men came to the village and the situation started to become tense. Some locals have alleged that the men attacked other villagers with rods and stones leading to injuries to at least six men.
However, according to Muslim residents, the situation was more worse than portrayed. They allege that three houses belonging to Muslims were torched forcing Muslim families to flee in terror.
Many homes and vehicle were also reportedly damaged. Homes belonging to Individuals named Arif, Salim and Imran were set ablaze.
When police rushed to the area, stones were allegedly pelted at them further escalating tensions. Battalion units and additional police forces were called to control the situation.
Superintendent of Police Vedvrat Siramour stated that arrests have been made in connection with violence. He said, “Arif, Salim and Imran have been taken into custody for interrogation.”
He also confirmed that many FIRs have been registered and investigation is underway.
Muslim community members and locals have voiced concerns about the actions of the authorities.
They questioned the arrests and said that the action looks one-sided and the entire Muslim community faces scrutiny amid fear and loss of property during the clashes.
Many locals say that the Muslim community is being targeted. As investigation continues amid heavy police deployment across the village, all eyes are on the authorities and their next course of action.
