APHC: "Kashmir turned into a living hell"
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas said in Srinagar that arrests, torture and confiscation of properties have intensified since 5 August 2019, and that residents are being harassed under the garb of cordon-and-search operations. The statement demanded the release of all political prisoners, including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Aasiya Andrabi, and a settlement of the Kashmir dispute under UN resolutions.

INDIA bloc protests begin; Jammu march on 7 October
The Kashmir Images reports that the Congress, National Conference, PDP and National Panthers Party (India) have announced district-level "Save Democracy" protests from 4 to 8 October, with a main march in Jammu on 7 October. The alliance is demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, an independent Election Commission and early restoration of statehood, and alleges that large numbers of voters were removed during electoral-roll revisions.

Farooq Abdullah: "Courage is emerging, change will come"
According to Greater Kashmir, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, addressing a conclave in Srinagar, criticised voter-roll deletions and voiced concern over the selective targeting of Muslim voters. "When the Constitution of India gives you the right, as an Indian citizen, to vote, no one has the right to remove anyone from the list," he said, adding that an autonomous Election Commission would have prevented the situation.

Budgam: lawyer and political activist arrested in fake SPO recruitment case
ETV Bharat reports that police arrested lawyer Jehangir Ahmad Dar and Firdous Nabi, who contested the 2024 parliamentary elections, both from Beerwah, Budgam. Police allege the two used forged Ministry of Home Affairs letters with fake stamps and signatures to seek the appointment of ten youths as Special Police Officers. Multiple FIRs have been filed and police say more arrests are expected.

Indian Army Northern Commander reviews security in South Kashmir
Greater Kashmir reports that Lt Gen Pratik Sinha, head of the Indian Army's Northern Command, visited a Rashtriya Rifles unit in South Kashmir on Sunday, reviewed the security situation and called for "relentless vigilance". Separately, an army man was held at Srinagar airport on Saturday after 213 grams of poppy straw and 69 grams of a cannabis-like substance were found in his baggage; a case has been registered.

West Bengal: 60 anti-Christian incidents in four months
According to IndiaTomorrow, research group India Hate Lab documented 60 incidents against Christians across 13 districts of West Bengal between 13 May and 20 September 2026, including 52 raids on prayer meetings, homes and churches and 8 cases of assault, mob violence or vandalism. The report says all incidents occurred after the BJP took power in the state and names groups including the VHP and Bajrang Dal.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind raises alarm over mosque demolitions and SIR
IndiaTomorrow reports that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind vice president Malik Moatasim Khan, at a press conference in New Delhi, raised concern over the demolition of mosques and churches in Saharanpur, Jaipur, Delhi's Shalimar Bagh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Ujjain, and called for enforcement of the Places of Worship Act, 1991. Vice president Prof. Salim Engineer called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls a major challenge to democracy and demanded it be halted and the CEC investigated.
