Srinagar-Jammu highway shut after landslide; Hundreds stranded amid heavy rainfall

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, vehicular movement on the vital Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the only surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world, remained suspended on Tuesday after a landslide struck the Mehar area of Ramban district following heavy rainfall.

According to Kashmir24, debris from the landslide blocked the highway, forcing authorities to halt traffic from both sides and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.

Officials said continuous rainfall along the highway stretch has triggered landslides and shooting stones at multiple vulnerable locations, significantly worsening road conditions.

“Traffic has been halted from both sides on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway due to landslides and shooting stones at several locations, along with continuous rainfall across the entire stretch,” Indian police said in an advisory.
